Authors: OKWORI, ADEJO

Abstract: Federal character among other things is to ensure national integration in Nigeria. This paper thus examined the application of federal character in Nigeria as a plural state in the context of national integration to see whether this has enhanced the national unity question in Nigeria. The study showed that, rather than ensuring national integration, the application of federal character has planted a seed of disunity among various ethnic groups through division of Nigeria into many political units, use of quota in admission and appointments etc. In concluding this study, some recommendations for improving federal character and national integration were highlighted.
